DECIPHer professor becomes new chair of NIHR Public Health Research Funding Committee

  • News

The committee funds studies evaluating the impact of real-world interventions on health and health inequalities in the UK.

Prof Graham Moore

From July 2024, Graham Moore, a professor in DECIPHer and School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University, and a Health and Care Research Wales Senior Research Leader, becomes the new chair of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Public Health Research (PHR) Funding Committee.

The PHR programme is a major funder of public health research across the UK. It funds research which focuses on UK interventions delivered outside of the NHS, which have potential to be implemented on a large scale, and to lead to sustainable improvements in the health of the public, and reduced health inequalities. The PHR Funding Committee includes a multi-disciplinary group of more than 30 scientists and public representatives, with diverse expertise relevant to public health.

As chair, Graham will oversee the processes via which the committee makes recommendations on the funding of commissioned and researcher led projects. He will also work with the programme director and PHR team on the strategic direction of the programme and management of its portfolio of funded research.

Graham said, “I am excited to be taking up this important role, and look forward to supporting the funding and delivery of important, high-quality research to improve the health of the UK public, and reduce inequalities, over the next few years.”
