Dr Rabeea’h Waseem Aslam and Dr Honor Young recently celebrated achieving Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Rabeea’h); and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Honor).
The Cardiff University Education Fellowship Programme helps staff develop their learning and teaching and gain recognition for their professional practice. It equips any staff members who teach or support learning in the University with the skills needed to become effective educators.
Rabeea’h said of the Programme: ‘The teaching team were excellent, and what particularly stood out was how they modelled in their own teaching many of the approaches and principles we were discussing. I also found the idea of the ‘hidden curriculum’ really helpful in articulating the unwritten expectations, assumptions and ways of navigating university life that we can easily take for granted as educators, but may never have explicitly communicated to our students. It made me much more conscious of making these visible in my own teaching and practice.’
Honor added: ‘I found the Senior Fellowship Programme at Cardiff University genuinely valuable. It provided a structured yet flexible reflective space to step back and think more deeply about my teaching leadership and its impact on colleagues, students, and the wider institution. Hearing how other leaders across different disciplines approached similar challenges broadened my perspective and offered practical ideas I could adapt to my own context. Above all, the programme sharpened and strengthened my strategic approach to leading teaching, helping me think more critically about how I influence, support, and develop others’ practice across the institution. I’d recommend it without hesitation to colleagues considering Senior Fellowship.’
