Parent Advisory Group (PAG)

PAG stands for Parent Advisory Group. PAG is a research advisory group of parents and carers from across Wales, and a key part of the Public Involvement work at DECIPHer.

Aim

PAG aims to work with public health researchers in DECIPHer, providing advice on and insight into parents’ perspectives, views and experiences on public health topics and research that are relevant to them. DECIPHer aims to reward parents through providing them with enriching experiences, capacity building opportunities and ensuring we listen to and include parent views in our decision-making processes about our research.

Objectives

  • Increase the relevance of our research – so that the research results are more likely to benefit the public and population health.
  • Increase the likelihood that our research is acceptable to potential participants – particularly when we are dealing with sensitive or controversial topics.
  • Improve the informed consent process – making it easier for prospective participants to understand the research and its potential risks and benefits.    Improve the experience of participating in research – checking that the practical arrangements for participants are appropriate and a respectful use of people’s time.
  •  Improve the communication/dissemination of research progress and findings to participants and the wider public – to enhance the impact our research can have.
