September 2018 – Jemma Hawkins and Graham Moore presented at the 10th IUHPE European Conference and International Forum for Health Promotion Research conference in Norway.
In autumn 2018, we greeted familiar faces from Denmark’s Aalborg University: Dr Karin Aagaard, Assistant Professor of Nursing and Public Health, and Charlotte Overgaard, an Associate Professor of Epidemiology, returned to resume work with Dr G.J. Melendez-Torres and Dr Jemma Hawkins.
Jesse Smith, a student graduating this year from Mississippi State University successfully applied for a Fulbright Fellowship and started his research at DECIPHer in September 2018.
Jane Nielsen, a PhD student at Aalborg University, started her three-month visiting scholar’s place at DECIPHer in September 2018.
Lauren Carpenter is a Research Fellow and PhD student with the Jack Brockhoff Child Health and Wellbeing Program, School of Population and Global Health at the University of Melbourne in Australia. She visited researchers at DECIPHer Cardiff to discuss her research.
November 2018 – Fatma Avsar, from Gazi University in Ankara, Turkey, joined us as an academic visitor, supervised by Graham Moore. Read her blog here.
March 2019 – Lena Hohwü, from Aarhus University in Denmark, visited DECIPHer for a month. Read her reflections here.
June 2019 – Professor Simon Murphy attended the SHE Research Group Meeting at The University of Iceland, Reykjavic, 19th – 21st June 2019.
November 2018 – Kelly Morgan presented findings from her fellowship on exercise referral and data on energy drink consumption of young people living in Wales at the 11th European Public Health Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
February 2019 – Simon Murphy attended ‘Influencing Behaviours through Science: UK-France perspectives’ at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Paris. He presented on behavioural science and policy in the UK.
Simon also attended the SHE-HSBC workshop in Copenhagen, presenting SHRN data measuring the health and wellbeing of young people.
June 2019 – Britt Hallingberg presented her research at the ISBNPA Conference in Prague.
March 2019 – The short course was delivered at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.
June 2019 – Ani Movsisyan, from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, helped to teach the Short Course.
July 2019 – Graham Moore and Jemma Hawkins delivered the Developing and Evaluating Complex Public Health Interventions course for the Queen Rania Foundation for Education and Development in Amman, Jordan.
November 2018 – Simon Murphy attended the SHE (Schools for Health in Europe)-HSBC meeting in Copenhagen to initiate a project in a number of pilot countries, where schools can make use of HBSC data information to measure health and well-being related to the school context.
Graham Moore sat on the Scientific Evaluation Committee at the French National Cancer Institute in Bordeaux.
April 2019 – Graham Moore was interviewed by media in New Zealand, Australia and USA to discuss findings of a paper from a NIHR-funded study on e-cigarettes, led by Britt Hallingberg.
July 2019 – DECIPHer continued to maintain strong links with colleagues at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich. Professor Eva Rehfuess was a co-applicant on a successful DECIPHer-led grant to the MRC, with Lisa Pfadenhauer a co-investigator.
Dr Jeremy Segrott was awarded funding by Cardiff University’s International Collaboration Seedcorn Fund to develop new research with Dr Jonathan Pettigrew, Arizona State University, USA. The aim of the collaboration was to develop joint work, including publications and grant application to explore interventions which link multiple systems, with a particular focus on school-family connections.
